We are looking to hire an energetic person to lead the circulation department of an active and vibrant public library.  Prospective candidates should enjoy working with people and delivering high quality customer service with tact, courtesy and professionalism to all users of the library. Onondaga Free Library, incorporated in 1961, serves the residents of the Town of Onondaga and as a member library of the Onondaga County Public Library System, the residents of Onondaga County. This modern, free association library is an award-winning branch located in a southwestern suburb of Syracuse. The library renovated and expanded in 2010 and has an average yearly circulation of over 220,000 items. With an annual operating budget of approximately $1.2 million, the library has an active and dedicated Friends group.



The Circulation Supervisor supports customer service, the use of library resources, and responsiveness through interactions between library staff and the public. The role of this position is to support circulation clerks and ensure they are able to assist patrons in accessing and using library spaces and resources effectively and equitably within established library procedures and policies.

As the Circulation Supervisor is a position of responsibility and leadership within the library, they are expected to support the development and training of circulation clerks while exhibiting professionalism in all aspects of the library’s mission.


  • Manages all aspects of the circulation department including supervision and training of personnel; technical services; and circulation procedures
  • Handles building operations as needed with an understanding of daily building procedures
  • Attends meetings/workshops related to circulation activities
  • Completes scheduling of circulation department each month
  • Manages and performs circulation responsibilities including circulation of library materials along with related record keeping & procedures
  • Prepares statistical reports and help with analysis of library performance metrics on a regular basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Director

  • Manage several projects at once and adapt to changing library needs


  • Thorough understanding of library services
  • Prior library experience preferred
  • POLARIS circulation system experience is preferred


Two (2) year college degree or equivalent combination of coursework and experience


This is a full time position of 35 hours per week with availability for day, evening and weekend hours as the schedule dictates, or as required by the Library Director.


Compensation is $18.00 per hour. Benefits include paid holiday, sick, and vacation leave, health insurance and TIAA CREF retirement plan.
