• Anchors Aweigh Bracelet - Wednesday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. - To go along with the Beneath the Surface summer reading theme, we will be making this casual bracelet featuring nautical rope, an anchor and a square knot… You will be all set to sail away when you wear it! 
• Come Fly Away With Me Necklace - Wedensday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. - Nothing says summer as much as the birds flying around singing beautiful songs.  Join us in making this beautiful clasp-less necklace.  Each time you wear it, you will want to humming along with the birdsongs you hear.

Junior Library Volunteers (JLV)

The Junior Library Volunteers (JLV) are a teen volunteer group at OFL that helps plan events or assist in service projects.  This is a great stepping stone to help  prepare for college and future community service.  Get involved and tell a friend!

Zen Meditation
Saturday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m.
Teens can feel pretty stressed out sometimes.  Coping with the pressures in school, at home, among peers can be a little overwhelming.  Meditation is a proven way to reduce stress and enhance wellness.  Join us as a educator from the Zen Center of Syracuse visits the library to present an introduction to meditation.

Tombstone Rubbing Field Trip
Saturday, July 20, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Join us in taking a field trip to an old local cemetery to examine tombstones from the 19th & 20th centuries.  Participants will meet at the library at 12:30 p.m. and library staff will escort them to the cemetery.

"Underground" Movie Double Feature
Monday, July 22 at 2 p.m.

Archeology in YOUR Town
Friday, July 26 at 3 p.m.
Ever wondered if something major was discovered in the grounds that lie below us in the Town of Onondaga?  Get your answers right here at the library as professional archeologist Daniel Seib presents archeological findings from his current research of the 2010-2011 excavations conducted at the Onondaga County Poorhouse and more!

The Hobbit Party
Wedensday, July 31, 3-5 p.m.
Didn't get a chance to see the new Hobbit movie in the theater?  No worries... We'll do a showing for FREE!  Enjoy popcorn and other refreshments as you watch the movie and play games.

Babysitters Training
Thursday, Aug. 8, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
This course provide youths, ages 11 to 15, the knowledge and confidence to care for infants and school-age children.  Combining video, activities and hands-on training and discussion for a complete learning experience. 

Babysitter’s Training teaches youths how to:

• Respond to emergencies and illnesses with first aid, rescue breathing and other appropriate care
• Make decisions under pressure
• Communicate with parents to learn household rules
• Recognize safety and hygiene issues
• Manage young children
• Feed, diaper and care for infants
• Start their own babysitting business

* This is an all-day course, so participants should bring a bag lunch.
Cost: $75    For youths, ages 11 to 15.    Registration required.
This course will be taught by Susan Morgan, who has been trained and certified to teach the Babysitter’s Training course by the American Red Cross.

Illustrative Drawing
Friday, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m.
Do you have a desire to draw?  That’s all you need for this class!  Join us in welcoming back Chris Pallace of Bent Castle Workshops, as he will teach you how to creatively draw things that may or may not be real… He will show you how to draw right from your imagination.
* Paper, pencils and all other supplies will be provided to you.

Teen-Made Film Fest
Monday, Aug. 12, 2-5 p.m.
Have you made a short film/mini movie? If so, come show us! Local teens are invited to share their own films with library staff as well as other teens.  Movies must be...

• 10-15 minutes
• in DVD format or posted online
• have their own screen credits
• movie content must be G, PG or PG-13 only

End of Summer Pizza Party
Wednesday, Aug. 14, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
